My Swing Trading Approach
I won’t rule out adding additional position or two to the portfolio today, but I’m not looking to pile on in this market. Manage the trades that I have, trim the ones that don’t provide a solid reason to keep, and raise the stops on the rest.
Indicators
VIX – Back below 10, but not seeing any heavy moves to the downside.
T2108 (% of stocks trading below their 40-day moving average): 73%. Unchanged yesterday.
Moving averages (SPX): Tested the 5-day moving average the last three days, and despite trading momentarily below it intraday, managed to close above the MA.

Industries to Watch Today
Consumer Defensive and Utilities still strong, but Technology reclaimed the top spot. Industrials doing next to nothing in recent days.
My Market Sentiment
Still bullish on this market. Not seeing huge price moves out of the market with daily price ranges quickly tightening.

Welcome to Swing Trading the Stock Market Podcast!
I want you to become a better trader, and you know what? You absolutely can!
Commit these three rules to memory and to your trading:
#1: Manage the RISK ALWAYS!
#2: Keep the Losses Small
#3: Do #1 & #2 and the profits will take care of themselves.
That’s right, successful swing-trading is about managing the risk, and with Swing Trading the Stock Market podcast, I encourage you to email me (ryan@shareplanner.com) your questions, and there’s a good chance I’ll make a future podcast out of your stock market related question.
In today's episode, I tackle a listener email covering a variety of swing trading topics, including the benefits of cash accounts, T+1 settlements, options trading using straddles, and even straddling the indices with leveraged ETFs. I'll also discuss whether new traders should be trading options and the ramifications that come with skipping over trading equities and jumping into options trading instead. Lots of insights packed into this one!
Be sure to check out my Swing-Trading offering through SharePlanner that goes hand-in-hand with my podcast, offering all of the research, charts and technical analysis on the stock market and individual stocks, not to mention my personal watch-lists, reviews and regular updates on the most popular stocks, including the all-important big tech stocks.
