My Swing Trading Approach
Shorts look like the outcast yet again. The bounce yesterday and the pre-market one today, makes the long setups the only relevant trades to consider.
Indicators
VIX – Two straight days of selling, and a 20% decline yesterday. It shouldn’t be too long before the VIX is back in the 10’s again.
T2108 (% of stocks trading below their 40-day moving average) – 23% bounce yesterday, but still at 42%. Stocks still aren’t as healthy as the indices imply.
Moving averages: 5 and 50-day moving averages reclaimed. Resistance at the 10-day, and possibly at the 20-day MA.
Industries to Watch Today
Utilities have held up phenomenally well during the recent selling. Financials made a respectable comeback, and one of the stronger indices yesterday. Energy looks rough, went against the market rally yesterday. Solars however are showing strength of late. Defense as strong as ever. Small caps were solid, and tech easily beat the broader market.

My Market Sentiment
Yesterday’s bounce was more than a dead cat manuver. The market looks like it has more to go similar to the bounces that we saw in each of the last three months.
Large caps > Small caps.

Welcome to Swing Trading the Stock Market Podcast!
I want you to become a better trader, and you know what? You absolutely can!
Commit these three rules to memory and to your trading:
#1: Manage the RISK ALWAYS!
#2: Keep the Losses Small
#3: Do #1 & #2 and the profits will take care of themselves.
That’s right, successful swing-trading is about managing the risk, and with Swing Trading the Stock Market podcast, I encourage you to email me (ryan@shareplanner.com) your questions, and there’s a good chance I’ll make a future podcast out of your stock market related question.
In today's episode, I explain whether it is a good idea or not to rapidly increase the size of your portfolio if you come across a sum of cash. A lot of traders will do this without ever recognizing the emotional toll it can have on you as a swing trader and the awful mistakes you can make in doing so.
Be sure to check out my Swing-Trading offering through SharePlanner that goes hand-in-hand with my podcast, offering all of the research, charts and technical analysis on the stock market and individual stocks, not to mention my personal watch-lists, reviews and regular updates on the most popular stocks, including the all-important big tech stocks.
