FOMC Statements in 2016

So the question is what dates are the best for raising rates in 2016?

January 26th: No change

March 16th: Best opportunity to raise rates, though most are not expecting it. Market up +8% off of the February lows.

April 27th: Would likely have to schedule an unexpected press conference in order to do so. I don’t think this is a viable date. If you don’t do it in March, why would you in April?

June 15th: Possible but now the market is in the months where it is very susceptible to major periods of selling. Raising rates would only add to it here.

July 27th: In the heat of what will be a highly contested and intense political season. No way.

September 21st: Nope, less that seven weeks out? Puh-lease.

November 2nd: Seriously… one week from casting votes, no way on God’s green earth would they raise rates here.

December 14th: Did you see what happened last December when they raised rates?

So there you have my highly insightful and well researched opinions on future rate hikes. I’m not saying I agree with the rate hikes (we should have raised them years ago, not now). But if you don’t raise rates now, then when? Because it sure as heck doesn’t get any easier. yellen raising rates
