With electronic trading the new wave of buying and selling, buy-and-hold strategies is quickly becoming a relic of the past. However that doesn't mean you can't benefit from stocks held over the long-term - just look at AAPL and NFLX and you'll quickly agree. However, you have to be very cautious of what you hold for the long-term as earnings and other events can instantly cut the value of a stock permanently in half.

So share with us what is your best long-term strategies, how you allocate your assets, and what kind of picks you think will be the best trades over the years to come.

Edgy, I appreciate what you are saying. I have the same problem. One suggestion that I obtained from someone whose judgment I respect is to look at the weekly chart as well as all your other indicators. If he weekly is not showing a reversal, try to keep your finger off the sell button. It has helped me at times.

Edgy
Edgy,
I often buy with long-term goals in mind. But then I'll sell soon after when I've made a profit, stops get triggered, or a quick glance at the intraday starts to look like a sell signal.
Even though I hold short-term, I keep watching those same stocks for the long-term behavior that gets me interested in the first place.
I would like to hear the strategies you other traders employ to stick with a holding for extended periods.

Thanks Ryan. As I think you know, I've been working both sides of the street long/longer term on one side and whatever it is I do in the swing trade arena. I think I need more help with the long-term trades than I do with swing trading now. More ideas, more fun.

Ryan, I am so pleased you have created this blog. I have had many trades that are longer term than those now posted on your chat room. I hope others will join in. I expect to post any new trades that I expect to hold on to for several weeks to months.
Thanks
