How we all got screwed by wall st

A great documentary. I'm assuming everything he says in this film is true since it doesn't seem to be disputed by another film or discredited in any way. If it's all true it's pretty disparaging. I found myself wondering why some of the men being interviewed agreed to be interviewed because they ended looking like such a-holes. The best was the guy who was the head of like columbia business school or something and the guy who was the head of the economics dept at harvard. This guys just looked liked stumbling idiots. I'm guessing that the director must have told them it was a movie about the something else and got them to sign off on it or something, because I don't know why else they would say what they said.

Some of the facts are particularly disturbing, especially the guys who worked for the big bank selling these crappy cdo's to us and then making upwards of 460 million dollars themselves in a 5 year period....the dude from countrywide. Unreal.

Review

Pros
Matt Damon was a great narrator. Amazing job by the director to get the story right on all accounts
Cons
Not sure there are any. Movie starts out a little slow with some touching on Europe.

Never gets old

Very funny and well paced

Review

Pros
Certainly one of Eddie Murphy's best performances, with an all-star cast. If only Eddie Murphy kept making movies like this one.
Cons
It has it's silly moments that I could do without (the monkey scenario), but otherwise no big deal.

The High Standard for trading movies

Amazing performances...

Review

Pros
Michael Douglass is on fire. There are so many one liners in this movie and he delivers them effortlessly. I forget sometimes that he is acting. Seems so natural. Charlie Sheen is also great with many great supporting roles, from the other traders in his trading room to his father's role. The story line is great, I would assume pretty easy for most people who aren't traders to follow, and really represents a lot of what was happening in the 80's with insider trading all over the place. Some of the cinematography is great...i love the shots that go to dark (end of the gym scene) or go to very bright (end of of the scene where charlie puts on his sunglasses) or the shot looking up at gecco from the ground when he says....."dump it". too funny
Cons
A sequel shouldn't be made unless it's going to better or just as good. This movie might be brought down a bit by it's less interesting Wall St 2. The worst part about this movie for me might be the ending. The last 10 minutes feel kind of lame and rushed.

Grew on me

I'm recommending, but don't expect a great performance out of Lebeauf. He has always dissapointed me. I can't think of one movie he's been in that I've liked. I would have seen maybe....Matt Damon in the role? Some of the other actors where superb...Lebeauf's boss, his enemy, and his enemies boss...sorry, can't remember the names.

Review

Pros
This movie kind of grew on me after I watched it a couple of times (it was on HBO..you know how it is). At first, I was expecting as good of a movie as the original or better, but come on, nothing's going to be better than that. If you enjoy it for what it ends up being, more of a romantic flick, then it's not bad.
Cons
Lebeauf is out of his league with some of these actors and should not have been cast in this role. I wish that Douglass had a much bigger role in the movie, although it could have been because of his recently diagnosed cancer that he had a smaller role. The focus of the movie should have been much more about trading, real trading floors, insider trading, the crazy world of many traders (prositutues, cars, drugs), and more of gorden gecco. Instead, it was really about a love story, with a huge financial meltdown happening on the side!

No "wall st"

Recommended, but don't expect much from the acting. It's just a nice little easy flick that anyone can understand. And if you like anything about stocks you will probably find it interesting.

Review

Pros
Giovanni really saves this movie, as does the actor who plays his father (can't remember his name...he was on Alias). It's about trading, so that's good. It has a pretty good premise based on penny stocks and brokerages that were riding the bull wave in the 90's.
Cons
Most of the acting was horrendous. Ben Affleck is just superbly bad as he tried to do an imitation of Alec Baldwin in Glen Gary Glen Ross. Vin Diesel is actually not all that bad, although limited in the amount of lines he had. Honestly, I wish they would have had more fast cars and women, etc....explore the world that these traders live in. Instead, the focus was on Giovanni's character and his growing up by making mistakes.
