"Greed is Good." This is the credo of the aptly named Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), the antihero of Oliver Stone's Wall Street. Gekko, a high-rolling corporate raider, is idolized by young-and-hungry broker Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen).

Inveigling himself into Gekko's inner circle, Fox quickly learns to rape, murder and bury his sense of ethics. Only when Gekko's wheeling and dealing causes a near-tragedy on a personal level does Fox "reform"-though his means of destroying Gekko are every bit as underhanded as his previous activities on the trading floor. Director Stone, who cowrote Wall Street with Stanley Weiser, has claimed that the film was prompted by the callous treatment afforded his stockbroker father after 50 years in the business; this may be why the film's most compelling scenes are those between Bud Fox and his airline mechanic father (played by Charlie Sheen's real-life dad Martin). Ironically, Wall Street was released just before the October, 1987 stock market crash.

A Classic!

This is a classic story that is a must watch for everyone. It is a bit outdated now but that is what adds to the effect of the movie. Bud Fox against Gorden Gekko as they battle it out for the top gain. See what it is like to be Mr. Insider. Great performances by the top actors.

The High Standard for trading movies

Amazing performances...

Review

Pros
Michael Douglass is on fire. There are so many one liners in this movie and he delivers them effortlessly. I forget sometimes that he is acting. Seems so natural. Charlie Sheen is also great with many great supporting roles, from the other traders in his trading room to his father's role. The story line is great, I would assume pretty easy for most people who aren't traders to follow, and really represents a lot of what was happening in the 80's with insider trading all over the place. Some of the cinematography is great...i love the shots that go to dark (end of the gym scene) or go to very bright (end of of the scene where charlie puts on his sunglasses) or the shot looking up at gecco from the ground when he says....."dump it". too funny
Cons
A sequel shouldn't be made unless it's going to better or just as good. This movie might be brought down a bit by it's less interesting Wall St 2. The worst part about this movie for me might be the ending. The last 10 minutes feel kind of lame and rushed.
